Whether you’re a whale, Leviathan, or Poseidon himself, the pity system is always something gacha gamers can rely on.

This mechanism increases the chances of players obtaining valuable items or units after a certain number of attempts or “rolls”. Essentially, it sets a threshold whereby the game guarantees that the player will receive a specific item or character, usually of higher rarity.

One of the most popular gacha games, Genshin Impact, helped popularize this system, and it has now made its way into another HoYoverse title — Honkai Star Rail.

Everything you need to know about the Honkai Star Rail pity system

Is the Honkai Star Rail pity system the same as Genshin Impact?

If you’re a player coming from Genshin Impact, we’ve got good news for you.

The Honkai Star Rail pity system works the same way as it does in Genshin Impact.

How the Honkai Star Rail pity system works in character banners

HSR’s limited-time character event banners follows the 50-50 system.

This means that there is a 50% chance that you will get the featured 5-star character on the event banner, and a 50% chance that you wouldn’t, and instead acquire a 5-star character on the permanent banner instead.

If the latter happens, the next 5-star character that you will get is guaranteed to be the one featured in the event banner.

Hard pity and soft pity in Honkai Star Rail character event warps

Every 90 warps guarantees a 5-star character — this is regarded as “hard pity” in HSR.

Soft pity happens when you get your 5-star after 70 or 80 pulls, or, if you’re really lucky, even less.

Stellar Warp doesn’t follow the 50-50 system. Instead, it guarantees players a 5-star character or a 5-star Light Cone for every 90 pulls.

Here are all the 5-star characters and 5-star Light Cones that you can obtain from Stellar Warp:

CHARACTERSLIGHT CONES
HimekoNight on the Milk Way

GepardIn the Name of the World

BailuTime Waits for No One

Light Cones in HSR have a slightly different pity system.

There is a 75% chance that the first 5-star Light Cone you obtain is the promotional one. If that doesn’t happen, fret not — the next 5-Star Light Cone that you get will be the featured one on the banner.
